Prof. Dr. Habil. Mihály Mőcsényi (1919-2017) Landscape Architect
We would like let the members of IFLA know that Mihály Mőcsényi past away last week in his own-designed summer resident at Balatongyörök in the age of 98. He was the oldest and most regarded Hungarian landscape architect, who was awarded the ‘Sir Geoffry Jellicoe-prize’ in 2012, and the highest national scientific ‘Kossuth-prize’ in 2014. He was a designer, master, researcher, university-teacher, dean, professor emeritus and a former IFLA president (1986). In the age 95 became the chair of the biggest landscape architectural competition-jury in Hungary on the Városliget (Citypark). He was very active on programs, events and for an open-minded conversation with any young student or old politician until the last moment. We are all happy to know him and learned his passionate, enthusiastic love for landscape architecture!
