The Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) has today announced the appointment of Shaun Walsh as President through until the 2020 AGM following recent Director elections and confirmation of Office Bearer positions by the incoming Board.
The announcement was made in front of a packed Home of the Arts theatre as part of the 2018 International Festival of Landscape Architecture on the Gold Coast.
Mr Walsh expressed his gratitude to the membership for re-electing him as a Director and to the incoming Board for appointing him as Chair and President.
“It is a tremendous honour to have the opportunity to Chair the Board and lead AILA through the next exciting phase of our evolution.”
Mr Walsh has previously served on the AILA Board from 2016 to 2018 and 2013 to 2015 and briefly in 2012. Walsh has been a Registered Landscape Architect since 2008 and nominated Fellow member from the beginning of 2018, Mr Walsh is currently the CEO of City Parklands Services Pty Ltd which manages Southbank and Roma Street Parklands in Brisbane, Queensland.
“AILA has an exciting couple of years ahead as we look to continue the good work of the previous Board. We will be busy implementing ongoing initiatives like the Gender Equity Study, Reconciliation Action Plan, stabilising AILA’s financial performance and the continual review and improvement of the services we offer members. We will continue to work hard on advocating to government about the value Landscape Architects bring to our cities and town, as well as profiling the profession to the public and other build environment professionals.”
“We will promote how Landscape Architects are making our cities more liveable and healthier for the community and how we are the key contributor to the urban design and development of our nation.”
The other Officer Bearer positions confirmed include the endorsement of Peta-Maree Ashford as Vice President and Chris Tidswell as Company Secretary. Claire Martin and Katharina Nieberler-Walker were elected as Directors during the recent member voting process.
Mr Walsh paid tribute to outgoing President Linda Corkery, Vice-President Angus Bruce, Company Secretary Sara Padgett Kjaersgaard and Director Barbara Schaffer.
“Thank you to Linda and all of the other Directors for their leadership, hard work and dedication to AILA. Much has been achieved over a period of significant change during the last two years. The membership has been well served by the countless hours they contributed to the good governance and strategy advancement of AILA.”
Other highlights from the last twelve months can be read in the 2018 Annual Report, which was endorsed by those present at the AGM on Friday 12 October 2018.
The new AILA Board will meet for the first time in December 2018.
