Helena Gutmane

Helena Gutmane is Latvian landscape architect, urbanist, city planner. Studied philology at University of Moscow and University of Latvia (Bsc. 1996), landscape architecture at Latvian University of Agriculture (Bsc. 2005). Her Master of Human settlements (2010) is from University of Leuven, department Architecture, currently works on doctoral thesis at University of Leuven, department architecture and University of Latvia, faculty of geography and earth sciences.
She is the principal of atelier landscaping, public and private spaces (ALPS) based in Riga, Latvia. In 2011 co-founded NGO “Urban Institute”, Riga. 2006 -2012 – member of the Board of Latvian Association of Landscape architects (LAAB), representative from LAAB in IFLA Europe, since 2013 – member of the Board of Riga City architect.
Her professional and research interests are in the interdisciplinary field between academic and pro active spatial transformation practices, urban planning, affective science, anthropology and cultural studies.
Helena is visiting editor in Latvijas architekctūra, annual issue on public spaces, (co) authored number of articles in professional and scientific journals in Latvia and abroad.
