Dr. Julia Georgi, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Architecture, Land and Environmental Sciences, Neapolis University of Pafos (Cyprus).

Dr. Julia GEORGI /Nerantzia TZORTZI received her PhD in Urban Environmental Design at the School of Geotecnical Science, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece), her Master in Landscape Architecture from University of Newcastle Upon Tyne (UK) and her Bachelor in Forestry Engineering and Natural Environment and from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece.

She was President of Greek Association of Landscape Architects-PHALA (2003-16) and now Board Member of PHALA, Board Member of LE:NOTRE INSTITUTE and Member of IFLA, where she is active in the IFLA WGs: “UIA / IFLA Working Group Indigenous Ecosystem Corridors and Nodes” and “Cultural Landscapes”.

Her career has spanned over 25 years’ as Professor in Landscape Architecture at a number of European Universities (e.g. Cyprus, Greece, Italy) at both Graduate and Undergraduate level. She has served for 15 years as executive professional in Forestry Engineer and Landscape Architect at the Ministry of Environment, Urban Planning and Energy – Climate Change of Greece. During her service at the Ministry she served as General Project Manager at the Environmental Awareness Park Organization of Antonis Tritsis, the largest urban park in Greece (120 Ha).
During the years 2000-2004 she offered her expertise as General Project Manager and Head of Environmental Department for the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. She designed and supervised the construction of significant landscape projects (urban, periurban parks, greenways, venues) of ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games such as the Contemporary Marathon Route, the surrounding environment of Olympic Venue: Whistle House, the landscape design of the surrounding area of Peace and Friendship Stadium, the renovation of Athens National Garden, the redesign of Pedion Areos Park, the landscape preservation of the Historic Garden of Zappeion Megaron, the landscape design for Exarchia square, and the landscape design of Kolonaki square.

From 1997 to 2000 she was Head of the Environmental Department of EGNATIA ODOS S.A. Design/Construction Company which specifically designed and constructed Egnatia Odos, the transnational Road from Adriatic Sea throughout Greece up to the boarders with Turkey.
Lastly, she exhibits an extensive professional expertise in landscape architecture since 1994.

Currently (since September 2012), she is an Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Architecture, Land and Environmental Sciences, and Director of the Master in Landscape Architecture at Neapolis University, Pafos (Cyprus).
She is teaching:
a) Sustainable Environmental Design, Landscape Restauration and Environmental Management, Planting Design for Climate Change, Landscape Architecture Studios I (Residential Landscape design), Studio II (Design of Green Open Urban Spaces) and Studio III(Landscape Restoration), History of Landscape Architecture, Contemporary Landscape Architecture. She is also organizing every two years the International Workshop in Landscape Architecture at the Master of Landscape Architecture Program.
b) Special Architecture Studio, History in Landscape Architecture and Landscape Architecture Studio in the Architecture Program.
c) Sustainable Development in the Department of Real Estate.
She is also visiting Professor in the following Universities:
a) Politecnico di Milano (2016-17), Architecture, Built Environment and Construction Engineering Department, teaching “Special Topics in Landscape”, within the Master School of Architecture in Piacenza
b) ZUST University at Hangzhou (2016-17), China by teaching Landscape Design, Urban Environment and Ecology, Nature based solutions for the improvement of microclimate and air pollution in large cities and Natural Based Solutions at School of Architecture, planning Department
c) Greek Open University (from 2001-today)teaching Environmental Impacts and Assessment Methods within the Master School in Environmental Design in Cities and Buildings
d) Aristotle University, Thessaloniki (in the period 2001-2015) (Greece) teaching “Technical Works and landscape projects. Road, Transport, Energy, Hydraulics, Natural Resources Exploitation” within the Master School of Landscape Architecture

As an academic expert in landscape architecture, she was asked by the Patriarch to design and supervise the construction of the gardens of the Theological School of Chalki in Istanbul where the design was a sustainable garden (symbolise the paradise). During her academic career at Neapolis University she won an award for her design submission at the UIA (International Union of Architects) professional competition “Happiness and Urban Space” by designing a sustainable island that could introduce bio-diversity into the cities.

The last 10 years she has been leading more than 25 European Programmes (e.g. GREENLINK, PERIURBAN, GARDEN ART DESIGN) in co-operation with other European Countries with an emphasis on Environmental Design and Management and Climate Change (INTERREG IVC, FP7, LIFE+).

Additionally, she has served as the official representative of Greece in the LIFE+ European Project (budget approximately 300.000.000 € yearly) from 2009-2011 specialised on Climate Change Project and Sustainable Development.

Over the years she has published 4 books and more than 80 scientific papers (60 at International and National Conferences and 20 in International Journals).

She has organized the 5th LE:NOTRE Forum 2016, at Neapolis University, Pafos, Cyprus.

Her scientific interests are the improvement of the microclimate in large cities by the use of several plant species as well as the improvement of the air pollution.

H Δρ. Τζούλια Τζώρτζη, είναι Αναπληρώτρια Καθηγήτρια Αρχιτεκτονικής Τοπίου, Πρόεδρος Τμήματος Αρχιτεκτονικής και Γεωπεριβαλλοντικών Επιστημών του Πανεπιστημίου Νεάπολις Πάφου στην Κύπρο από το 2012, διδάκτορας του Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλονίκης με Μεταπτυχιακό Αρχιτεκτονικής Τοπίου στο Πανεπιστήμιο του Νιουκάστλ στο Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο και Πτυχίου Δασολόγου Περιβαλλοντολόγου στο Πανεπιστήμιο Θεσσαλονίκης.
Είναι Μέλος του Διοικητικού Συμβουλίου του LE:NOTRE INSTITUTE και του Πανελλήνιου Συλλόγου Αρχιτεκτόνων Τοπίου (ΠΣΑΤ), Αντιπρόεδρος ΠΣΑΤ (2003-16) και στη διάρκεια της 25 καριέρας της ήταν Αν.

Καθηγήτρια Αρχιτεκτονικής Τοπίου σε διάφορα Πανεπιστήμια της Ελλάδας και επισκέπτρια καθηγήτρια σε Πανεπιστήμια στην Κίνα, Βραζιλία, Ιταλία ενώ έχει συμμετείχε στο σχεδιασμό και στην υλοποίηση του Προγράμματος Ολυμπιακών Αναπλάσεων στους Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες της Αθήνας και στην αποκατάσταση του Τοπίου στην ΕΓΝΑΤΙΑ ΟΔΟΣ ΑΕ. Έλαβε Τιμητική Διάκριση σε Διεθνή Αρχιτεκτονικό Διαγωνισμό της UIA στο Durban της Ν. Αφρικής και ήταν συντονίστρια της Μελέτης των Πατριαρχικών Κήπων της Χάλκης στην Κωνσταντινούπολη.

Συμμετείχε σε πάνω από 30 Ευρωπαϊκά Προγράμματα (CULTURE, LIFE+, INTERREG) ενώ έχει συγγράψει έναν σημαντικό αριθμό επιστημονικών άρθρων και εξέδωσε 3 βιβλία και οργάνωσε το 5o LE:NOTRE FORUM στην Πάφο.
